Bus Connects - Bus Services & Bus Corridors (This information section is under development- more will be added as information becomes available)
Extract from Bus Connects documentation on Proposed Bus Services and Routes serving Glendown and Environs
The information available on the Bus Connects website indicates that there will be 3 bus routes directly serving Glendown and Wellington Road residents. All buses pass on the road section between Limekiln Road and Whitehall Road roundabout.
The 81 bus originates/terminates at Limekiln (Current 15A bus stop?) and terminates/originates at Ringsend Garage (Via Merrion Square)
The 82 bus originates/terminates at Tallaght and terminates/originates at Ringsend Garage (Via Merrion Square)
The F2 bus originates/terminates at Spawell and terminates/originates at Charlestown shopping centre Finglas (via O'Connell Street)
The proposal does not show any bus travelling on Rossmore Road - i.e. no bus terminating at Orwell Shopping Centre. An earlier proposal for a bus on Glendown Road is now not included in the proposal. A new bus route will travel on Cypress Grove Road - turning right at the roundabout at end of Cypress Grove Road.
The
The details of these routes end to end are available on a single map on the Bus Connect website but are too congested to see all the details as bus routes merge towards the city centre. Individual local maps are available but it is necessary to look at multiple maps to see the end to end route for a particular service. There are many routes serving other areas on the same map. Below are part maps sections which highlight the bus routes for the Glendown area. For the more complete picture see links to the Bus Connects maps.

Summary of Proposed Bus Corridors impacting on commute Glendown & Environs to/from City Centre
Two bus corridors - Templeogue/Rathfarnham to/from City Centre corridor and Kimmage to/from City Centre corridor will impact on car/van commute options for residents in Glendown and Environs. The restrictions on other corridors east and west of these will also have a local impact due to the redirection of traffic from these areas towards the Templeogue/Rathfarnham routes and the Kimmage route In general the provision of these corridors will affect car usage because of:
The National Transport Authority proposal for the Templeogue/Rathfarnham Corridor has been submitted to An Bord Pleanala with closing date of 15th August 2023 for objections. Full details of the proposal can be found at templeoguerathfarnham scheme.ie This is a very large and detailed document - the most relevant sections for identifying impact on commuting are Chapters 3, 4 and 6. The document gives the details of the restrictions from Nutgrove Avenue to Rathgar and from Templeogue to Rathgar s it is necessary to look at other documents to show the full impact of a commute from this area to city centre. (more details will follow here in the coming weeks and months)

The restrictions on other corridors east and west of these will also have a local impact due to the redirection of traffic from these areas towards the Templeogue/Rathfarnham routes and the Kimmage route In general the provision of these corridors will affect car usage because of:
- Bus Gates (Road closures in one or both directions)
- Restricted turns and junction changes)
- Turning some roads into cul de sacs to prevent so called "rat runs" to avoid main roads
- Extra traffic on other roads due to corridor restrictions
- Prioritisation of buses on shared roads
- Road widening (CPO etc)
